Grand Collaboration
The Quality Improvement Institute of Nigeria (QIIN) is collaborating with the Young Medical Laboratory Scientists Forum (YMLSF), Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN) – Rivers State Branch; and Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH) to deliver a highly subsidised Quality Management System Workshop and ISO Certification Programme for young medical laboratory professionals.
The partnership was strengthened on 11 September 2026, when MLS Precious Nwogu, Chairman, YMLSF Rivers State Branch, and MLS Nicole Ogbak, Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Organising Committee, visited Abuja and met with QIIN President/CEO, Dr. Stephen S. Hati. The meeting provided an opportunity to finalise arrangements and reaffirm a shared commitment to developing quality management competence among young laboratory professionals.
Making Quality Education More Accessible
Scheduled for 22–23 October 2026, the programme will focus on ISO 15189:2022 – Medical laboratories: Requirements for quality and competence, alongside the foundations of ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems.
The workshop will adopt a hybrid format, with physical sessions at Rivers State University Teaching Hospital and provision for online participation. The significantly subsidised fee is intended to make practical ISO education and certification more accessible to young scientists.
Participants will learn from experienced QIIN faculty and other resource persons, supported by practical learning materials, templates and implementation tools. The emphasis will go beyond understanding what the standards require to demonstrating how those requirements can be applied and sustained in real laboratory settings.
Building the Next Generation of Quality Professionals
For QIIN, this initiative reflects our commitment to capacity building and collaborative professional development. Introducing young medical laboratory scientists to quality management principles and internationally recognised standards early in their careers can help make quality an integral part of everyday professional practice.
QIIN appreciates the leadership of MLS Precious Nwogu and MLS Nicole Ogbak in driving the initiative and the contributions of everyone involved in bringing the programme together.
As we look forward to Port Harcourt in October, our goal is simple: to equip young medical laboratory scientists with practical knowledge, tools and professional exposure to become champions of quality wherever they work.
