QIIN Inaugurates Board of Directors

QIIN Launches With Inaugural Board of Directors Meeting

On March 12, 2022, a pivotal event marked the dawn of a new era for quality improvement in Nigeria. The Quality Improvement Institute of Nigeria (QIIN) held its inaugural board meeting at Consort Suites, located in the serene environs of the Kaura District, Abuja. Nine distinguished members were in attendance, including key figures such as Dr. SS Hati, the President/CEO, and Barr. A. Adekunle, the Secretary of the Board.

Kicking off promptly at 9 a.m., Mr. S. Opurum initiated the meeting with a solemn opening prayer, which was swiftly followed by the harmonious rendition of the national anthem by the assembled board members. Then, the spotlight turned onto each board member as they took turns introducing themselves, marking their first official interactions as a team.

In his opening speech, Dr. Stephen Hati, the president and CEO, extended a warm welcome to all members. He extended his gratitude for their willingness to be part of this pivotal journey aimed at improving quality across all sectors in Nigeria. Dr. Umar Musa was then appointed as the board chairman, a role he graciously accepted, promising to lead with integrity and ensure QIIN’s success.

The meeting was characterized by two core sessions, each critical to setting the foundation for QIIN’s operations. The first session focused on the review and adoption of QIIN’s branding elements and key working documents. The attendees witnessed the unveiling of the QIIN logo, a symbol reflecting the institute’s strategic directions. A detailed walk-through of the constitution and the charter of directors also took place, resulting in their official adoption following some minor amendments.

In the second session, the spotlight fell on QIIN’s strategic plan for 2022–2024. Dr. Hati presented a comprehensive plan that emphasized the importance of relevance and membership growth. It showcased innovative tools like the proposed QCApp, a customer complaint management tool, and strategic initiatives such as the establishment of a suitable operational office and a dedicated website.

A proposed National Quality Summit 2022 was discussed, a platform aiming to bring together national stakeholders for a robust quality improvement dialogue. The Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON) and other strategic partners will work together to hold the summit, which QIIN is spearheading, in order to promote a collective push for quality improvement.

As the meeting advanced to its AOB segment, the members deliberated on crucial matters like setting up sub-committees to cater to various aspects of QIIN’s activities. A date for the next board meeting was agreed upon, and the event was rounded off with a memorable photo session.

At around 2:00 p.m., Dr. DA Ismaila led a closing prayer to conclude the meeting after a thorough and useful discussion. The board chairman expressed his elation at the successful completion of the first board meeting and praised the team’s exceptional integrity and multidisciplinary expertise. This inaugural meeting sets the stage for QIIN’s journey, a path marked by a deep commitment to elevating quality in Nigeria.
