ISO 45001:2018 Occupational Health & Safety Management System Implementation Course
Build Safer Workplaces. Manage OH&S Risks. Implement ISO 45001 with Confidence.
About the Course
The ISO 45001:2018 Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) Implementation Course is a practical training programme designed to equip participants with the knowledge, tools and implementation skills required to establish, implement, maintain and continually improve an effective OHSMS.
ISO 45001 provides an internationally recognized framework for preventing work-related injury and ill health, providing safe and healthy workplaces, managing OH&S risks and continually improving OH&S performance. It applies to organizations of every size and sector.
This course goes beyond explaining the requirements of the standard.
Participants are taken clause by clause from requirement to implementation, answering the practical question:
“What do we actually need to do in our organization to demonstrate that this requirement has been implemented?”
Through practical examples, workplace scenarios, implementation exercises, risk-assessment tools and sample documented evidence, participants learn how to translate ISO 45001 requirements into a working occupational health and safety management system.
The approach is consistent with the wider implementation philosophy reflected in ISO 45002:2023, which provides implementation guidance and real-life examples showing how different organizations can apply ISO 45001 requirements in their own contexts.
Practical Implementation Tools
One of the major features of the course is exposure to working examples of implementation evidence.
Participants will work with examples such as:
Context & Issues Register • SWOT Analysis • Interested Parties Register • OHSMS Scope • OH&S Policy • Responsibility Matrix • Worker Consultation Records • Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment Register • 3×3 and 5×5 Risk Matrices • Legal & Other Requirements Register • OH&S Objectives & Action Plan • Competence Matrix • Training Records • Communication Matrix • Document Master List • Operational Control Procedures • Management of Change Records • Contractor Evaluation Records • Emergency Response Plan • Drill Reports • OH&S Performance Dashboard • Compliance Evaluation Records • Internal Audit Records • Management Review Records • Incident Investigation Reports • Root Cause Analysis • Corrective Action Records
This practical approach is particularly important because ISO 45001 is intended to establish a functioning management system—not simply a collection of safety documents. ISO describes its key elements as including leadership commitment, worker participation, hazard identification and risk assessment, legal compliance, emergency planning, incident investigation and continual improvement.
Practical Case Organization
Meet Wazobia Company Limited — WCL
Throughout the course, participants work with Wazobia Company Limited (WCL), a fictional multidisciplinary organization with engineering, healthcare, administrative and support operations.
WCL provides a common organizational setting through which participants can see how ISO 45001 requirements translate into practical evidence.
Learning Methodology
The course uses a highly participatory and implementation-oriented approach combining:
Facilitator-led instruction • Clause-by-clause implementation guidance • Real-life workplace examples • WCL case study • Practical exercises • Hazard identification exercises • Risk assessment and scoring • Group discussions • Implementation templates • Evidence review • Scenario-based MCQs • Introduction to audit thinking
Participants are also introduced to an important implementation question:
“If an auditor came tomorrow, what objective evidence would demonstrate that we actually do what our OHSMS says we do?”
This begins developing an audit-ready mindset while keeping the primary focus on effective implementation.
Who Should Attend?
The course is suitable across industries and organizational types, including healthcare, manufacturing, engineering, construction, oil and gas, energy, laboratories, logistics, telecommunications, public institutions and professional/service organizations.
It is particularly useful for HSE/OHS professionals, QHSE personnel, management system coordinators, managers and supervisors, engineers, healthcare professionals, HR and administrative personnel, compliance personnel, internal auditors, consultants, safety committee members, worker representatives, project personnel and individuals responsible for implementing or supporting an OHSMS.
ISO 45001 itself is designed for organizations of all sizes and sectors rather than only traditionally “high-risk” industries.
Course Outcomes
At the completion of the programme, participants should be better positioned to:
Understand ISO 45001 → Identify what needs to be implemented → Develop appropriate implementation tools → Generate objective evidence → Evaluate effectiveness → Prepare the organization for audit and continual improvement.
Certification
Participants who successfully meet the programme requirements will receive a Certificate of Course Completion in ISO 45001:2018 Occupational Health & Safety Management System Implementation.
