“Partners in Consumer Protection: Empowering Consumers Together.”
The Quality Improvement Institute of Nigeria (QIIN) joined other Consumer Protection Groups (CPGs) and Consumer Protection Associations (CPAs) at the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) engagement held on Thursday, July 16, 2026, in Abuja, under the theme “Partners in Consumer Protection: Empowering Consumers Together.”
The engagement, which is the first of its kind, brought together stakeholders from across the consumer protection ecosystem to discuss opportunities for collaboration and strengthen the collective effort toward protecting Nigerian consumers. The meeting was widely welcomed by participants, many of whom had long anticipated a platform for direct engagement and partnership with the Commission.
Representing QIIN, Dr. Stephen Hati delivered a goodwill message highlighting the critical role of Consumer Protection Groups in advancing consumer rights through education, research, evidence-based advocacy, and quality improvement initiatives. He emphasized that consumer protection is most effective when regulators and civil society organizations work together toward a common goal.
A major highlight of the event was the unveiling of the updated guidelines for the registration of Consumer Protection Groups and Consumer Protection Associations with the FCCPC. The new framework is expected to strengthen collaboration, improve coordination, and provide a clearer structure for stakeholder participation in consumer protection activities across the country.
As a registered Consumer Protection Group since 2022, QIIN welcomes this development and commends the FCCPC for creating an inclusive platform that recognizes the importance of partnership in consumer protection.
Over the years, QIIN has contributed to consumer awareness, stakeholder engagement, research, and quality improvement initiatives that promote accountability and service excellence. With the introduction of the revised guidelines, the Institute looks forward to deepening its collaboration with the FCCPC and expanding its efforts to empower consumers and improve the quality of goods and services in Nigeria.
QIIN also encourages more organizations and associations to participate in the consumer protection movement, recognizing that sustainable consumer protection can only be achieved through collective action, shared responsibility, and an unwavering commitment to the public interest.
Together, we can build a more informed, empowered, and protected consumer community in Nigeria.
